Fall Skin Care Tips
As we move into the colder months of October and November it is important to transition your skin care routine with your wardrobe. Just like you put away the tank tops and flip flops to pull out your sweaters and boots, it is important to reevaluate your skin care and beauty routines with the changing of the seasons.
Begin using a thicker moisturizer
With colder weather, means drier skin. Whereas in the summer you might use a lightweight day lotion, in the fall and winter you will want to move to something that is more hydrating. Options are available both with and without SPF. A product that I have fallen in love with is the Avon Anew Hydra Fusion Gel Cream. Please note this cream does not have SPF, so you will want to follow it with something that has SPF. If I put the Gel Cream on in the morning, I follow with the Anew Hydra Fusion Daily Beauty Defense Sunscreen Lotion with SPF 50. A lighter offering that isn’t as thick as the Gel Cream is the NEW Anew Hydra Fusion Snow Cream. All three of these products contain hyaluronic acid which is recommended by dermatologists to aid in hydration of your skin. They also contain raspberry antioxidant which defends your skin from environmental stressors. As a bonus they are vegan friendly and free from phthalates, parabens, sulfates, and petroleum.
Hydrate Head to Toe
I don’t know about you, but colder weather means my whole body just feels drier. I am the worst at being consistent with applying body lotion, but it is so important in the fall and winter months. If you are lazy like me, then you might like to use an in-shower body lotion. It’s an easy extra step at the end of your shower or bath. If you have the time, or simply want more hydration then I recommend the Avon Moisture Therapy Intensive Healing and Repair Body Lotion. This line of moisturizing products is fragrance free, dermatologist tested, and hypoallergenic.
As a teacher, I am constantly washing my hands and in the fall and winter they get so dried out, red, and itchy. The only thing that I have found that combats that dry skin is a good moisturizing hand cream. I have a couple favorites but one that has consistently worked for me is Avon Moisture Therapy Intensive Healing and Repair hand cream which is fragrance free!
So let’s talk about another area that gets missed sometimes. Your feet! Are your feet super dry and itchy? Sandal season may be over, but it is still important to take care of your feet and keep them moisturized. I recommend putting on your favorite foot cream at night and putting socks over it. The socks will help lock in the moisture. I use Avon Foot Works creams for my feet.
Cut down on the exfoliating
During the summer, you may exfoliate your skin often to renew it. In the fall and winter, it is recommended that you exfoliate less because when you exfoliate too much it will make your skin extra dry. If you are still looking to do a little exfoliation once in awhile then you can use a gentle exfoliator. There are two that I like to use when I do exfoliate. The first is the Anew Clinical Extra Strength Retexturizing Peel (which is just a pad that you rub over your face). This product is Oil-free and free from phthalates, parabens, sulfates and petroleum. It is also a fragrance-free option and vegan friendly. Another favorite of mine is the Anew Vitamin C Warming Peel which warms when activated with cold water. It uses vitamin c flakes and natural seeds to exfoliate while opening up the pores and removing impurities. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, petroleum-free as well as vegan friendly.
Take an Internal Hydration Supplement
If your skin care routine is not enough or if you just want to add in some extra hydration, you can add a Hydration Supplement to your daily routine. Not only is it important to drink plenty of water in a day, but it is important to stay hydrated. This internal hydration will help your skin to stay hydrated as well. I like to add the Espira Hydration supplement to my water because it not only has electrolytes which help with hydration but it also has B vitamins for more energy and Vitamin C and zinc for immune health. It comes in 3 flavors (Berry, Lemon Lime, and Orange). It is non-gmo, gluten free, and vegan. There are no preservatives and no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners.
Moisturize Your Lips
If you are like me, then colder weather means chapped lips. There are several options to keeping your lips healthy during the winter months. You can use lip balm, a lip conditioner, or even vitamin C. I take turns using all three depending on the day. A favorite is the lip conditioner because it contains SPF as well. If you are looking for a healthier option, I recommend the Vitamin C Antioxidant Lip Treatment as that is free from parabens, sulfates, and phthalates as well as alchohol-free.
Add an Eye Cream to Your Routine
Your eye area is sensitive. As a result, it is important that if you are going to put skin care products onto your eye area that they are approved to be used as an eye cream. Your eye area can get dehydrated and dry in the fall and winter like the rest of your skin. If you decide to add an eye cream to your regimen you will add it last in the routine 1) Cleanse 2) Treat 3) Moisturize 4) Eyes . If you are looking for a simple hydrating eye cream, then you might like the Anew Hydra Fusion De-puffing Eye Serum which contains hyaluronic acid and was voted Number 1 by Marie Claire magazine as a product that will change your life in 2019! This eye serum is formulated with caffeine. It is also Oil-free, fragrance-free, phthalate-free, sulfate-free, petroleum-free, Suitable for sensitive skin, Hypoallergenic, Dermatologist-tested and allergy-tested as well as Vegan friendly!
Keep using Your Sunscreen
Did you know that you should use sunscreen every day? In the fall and winter, it is easier to cover up the majority of your skin because you are wearing long pants and sweaters and maybe even a hat, but you cannot forget about your face. Most skin care products contain SPF and many makeup products do as well. If you are looking for a good facial SPF that is lightweight and can be used for men or women, then I recommend the Hydra Fusion Daily Beauty Defense Sunscreen with SPF 50.
Add Vitamin C to Your Regimen
Vitamin C has many benefits for your skin. It helps brighten your complexion and it can also help protect your skin from SPF rays that your sunscreen may miss. I have use the Anew Vitamin C Brightening Serum every day during my morning skin care routine. Since it is a treatment it follows your cleanser and you put it on before your moisturizer. 1) Cleanse 2)Treat (vitamin c serum) 3) Moisturize 4) Eyes
Use a hydrating mask
If you are looking for extra hydration, then you can use a hydrating mask a couple times a week in addition to your normal skin care routine. Dermatologists recommend using hyaluronic acid as a hydrator since it is something that is in our bodies naturally and production and hydration gets boosted when we use a skin care product that contains hyaluronic acid. I recommend either the Anew Hydra Fusion Night-time Facial Moisturizer (which is used 3 times a week) and/or the Anew Hydra Fusion In-Shower Mask (which can be used any time).
Use a humidifier
We all know sometimes the air is just dry during the fall and winter. A humidifier in your house can help to put more moisture back into the air and ease the dryness.
Eat Fall Foods that are Skin Friendly
Your favorite fall foods such as pomegranate, berries, peaches, pumpkin and other winter squashes are all superfoods that contain antioxidants that are healthy for your skin.
A note from the author
Please note that I found these tips by looking up Skin Care Tips to transition from summer to fall. I complied this blog post with information from articles that were posted to the websites for Allure, Forbes, and Real Simple. The products recommended are all products that I use personally and I stand by them and not just because I am an Avon Representative, but because the products really work.
