Spring Skincare Reset: How to Refresh Your Routine After a Dry Winter
Did your winter skincare routine leave your skin dry, dull, or a little too heavy? You’re not alone. As the seasons shift, so should your skincare routine—and spring is the perfect time to reset.
Think of it like swapping out your chunky sweaters for breezy layers. Your skin has different needs when the weather warms up, and if you’ve ever felt greasy, irritated, or just “off” during the spring months, chances are your winter routine is overstaying its welcome.
Let’s walk through how to freshen things up—with tips that are quick, affordable, and totally doable for even the busiest schedules.
1. Lighten Up Your Moisturizer
Winter calls for thick, rich creams to combat dry air. But once spring hits, that same cream can clog pores and leave your skin looking shiny instead of dewy.
What to do instead:
Switch to a lightweight, hydrating moisturizer with ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin. These draw water into your skin without the heaviness.
Try this: Avon’s Hydra Fusion Gel Cream is a great pick—it’s oil-free, absorbs fast, and leaves your skin feeling refreshed, not greasy. It’s also one of my favorite Avon Moisturizers!
2. Spring Clean Your Skincare Shelf
Be honest—how many half-used bottles are sitting in your bathroom right now?
Changing seasons are the perfect excuse to declutter. Expired products can irritate your skin or simply stop working. Look for weird smells, changes in texture, or products you haven’t touched in 6+ months.
Bonus Tip: Clean your makeup brushes and toss any old sponges while you’re at it. Spring cleaning = clean skin.
3. Ease Up on the Exfoliation (But Don’t Skip It!)
Winter dryness often calls for regular exfoliating, but spring humidity means your skin might be more sensitive. That doesn’t mean skip it altogether—just scale back and be gentle.
Look for:
- Enzyme exfoliants
- Polyhydroxy acids (PHAs)
- Mild scrubs with jojoba beads or rice powder
Avoid anything that feels like sandpaper—your skin isn’t a countertop!
Try This: Exfoliate once a week. My favorite exfoliator for the face is Avon’s Isa Knox Anew Clinical Collagen Booster Microneedling Polisher – A highly effective combination of gentle exfoliators polishes away dull skin cells, diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and improves the appearance of pores for a smoother, more youthful look. A lighter exfoliator that can be used 2-3 times per week, or even every day if your skin isn’t too sensitive, is Avon’s Anew Vitamin C Exfoliating Peel Pads – Reveal a smoother, more luminous complexion with these exfoliating pads that are soaked in a gentle blend of exfoliating PHA and pineapple extract. Formulated with vitamin C to help visibly brighten.
4. Make Sunscreen a Daily Habit (Even When It’s Cloudy)
Yes, even in March. Even if you’re not at the beach.
UV rays are sneaky and can damage your skin long before you feel the warmth. If you’ve been skipping SPF in the winter (we get it, life is busy), now’s the time to make it a non-negotiable.
Look for a lightweight, non-greasy SPF 30+ that plays nice under makeup. Avon’s Isa Knox Anew Solaire is a favorite—it protects without that chalky cast or sticky feel.
5. Hydrate From the Inside Out
Warmer weather can mean more time outside—and more water loss through sweat (even if you’re not running marathons). Your skin reflects what’s going on inside, so hydration matters.
Quick ways to help:
- Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning
- Add hydrating foods (like cucumbers, strawberries, and watermelon)
- Sip herbal teas if plain water bores you
Small shifts = big glow.
6. Add a Brightening Serum to Fight Winter Dullness
If your skin looks tired, uneven, or just “meh” after months of cold and dry air, a brightening serum can bring it back to life.
Look for:
- Vitamin C
- Niacinamide
- Resveratrol or ferulic acid
These ingredients help fade dark spots, even skin tone, and boost radiance without being harsh.
Pro tip: Use your serum in the morning before SPF. It’s like coffee for your face.
My favorites: I absolutely love Avon Beyond Glow Vitamin C 6% + Ferulic Acid Serum and the Avon Beyond Glow Niacinamide 10% + Panthenol Serum. These serums can be the perfect combo (I apply the Vitamin C first and then the Niacinamide). You can also use them alone (I use the Vitamin C in the morning and the Niacinamide at night).
7. Reevaluate Your Routine—And Keep It Simple
As life gets busier in spring—school activities, weekend getaways, gardening—you need a routine that fits, not fights, your schedule.
If you’re doing a 10-step routine you hate, it’s time to simplify.
Stick to the basics:
- Cleanser
- Moisturizer
- SPF
- A treatment (like a serum or mask) 2–3x a week
That’s it. Consistency matters more than complexity.
Bonus Tip: Refresh Your Beauty Tools
Spring = renewal. Give your skincare tools a refresh by:
- Washing your facial rollers and gua sha stones
- Replacing old washcloths or cotton rounds
- Swapping out dull razors or brushes
Clean tools = cleaner skin.
The Bottom Line
Transitioning from winter to spring doesn’t mean buying a whole new shelf of products or spending hours in the bathroom. It’s about tuning in to what your skin needs now—and giving it a little love, without the overwhelm.
You don’t need 25 products. You need the right ones. And that’s where I come in.
